The sun plays an important role in causing rain. It
evaporates water from seas, lakes, rivers and soil. This evaporated water or water vapours
form clouds which condense into droplets or ice.
As the air rises higher, more and more water vapours turn
into water and the clouds grow bigger and darker. Finally, water droplets from the clouds fall to the
ground as rain. Usually, rain results from nimbostratus or cumulonimbus clouds. Water falling from a cloud is
called precipitation. Air temperature both inside and outside the cloud determines whether precipitation is rain, snow
or hail. The low temperature inside and outside the clouds results in snowfall. In hilly areas like
Srinagar, Himachal and other mountainous regions of Uttaranchal, it snows heavily resulting in overflow of
water in rivers during summer and rainy months. Crops fall if there is no rain and people and animals may starve

On Friendship
This poem tells us about friendship by
praising its virtues and advantages. A friend is a God’s gift to us. A friend
is a God’s way of meeting our requirements. He supports us at all times. He
shows us sympathy whenever we need it. A friend is free to agree or disagree
with us on any point. We do not have to declare our love for our friend. He can
read our thoughts even if we do not express them. We can open our heart to a
friend and a friend can share our joy and sorrows. When our friend is away from
us, we remember him for his best quality. Friendship enables us to strengthen
our spiritual bond.
The Echoing Green
This poem is a little idyll of a village green on a warm afternoon in the spring. Young boys and girls have gathered for fun and frolic through their play. Some old men like john are sitting under the oak tree. Mothers of children also watch their young one at play. The open green space of playground comes alive with the cheerful shouts of children and the songs of birds. As the children play, the old people watch them. They are reminded of their own childhood. Old people forget the problems of their lives for the time being. The children go back home at sunset. Birds go to their nests to sleep for the night. The presence of children, birds, men and women on the ground shows the harmony between man and nature.

Ans. This chapter is based on the
theme the complicated problems can be solved by Lateral Thinking or
thinking differently. One does not have to solve them by logical methods. Lateral Thinking is creative or unconventional thinking. It
is thinking differently or doing something differently or doing something in a
novel way. Edward de Bono propagated this notion. He was of the view that
intelligence is a potential that all of us have and thinking is a skill to use

The chapter
gives some examples. A farmer had a girl. Her father had to pay a lot of money
ta a money-lender. She was asked to choose the money-lender as her husband by
